It was Native Americans who taught early settlers to use the tart cranberries for food and medicine. Now hundreds of years later we continue to learn about the importance of cranberries. One well-known remedy is drinking cranberry juice to help prevent urinary tract infections.
Urinary tract infections (UTI's) are one of the most common types of infections, second only to respiratory infections. Women get them more often than men. When men do get them, they can be more serious and more difficult to treat. The Melaleuca Wellness Guide tells us that nearly one in five women will get a urinary tract infection during their lives, and of those twenty percent will have reoccurrences. Urinary tract infections can be especially dangerous for seniors and pregnant women, as well as those with diabetes. Symptoms of a UTI include a frequent urge to urinate and pain or burning during urination.
Hygiene Is Important To Prevent And Treat UTIs
Most commonly UTI's are caused by E. coli bacteria invading the lower end of the urinary tract. Special care when showering and washing and choosing looser underwear can make a difference in avoiding the transfer of infection-causing bacteria.
When laundering undergarments, use MelaPower, and if possible use the hot water cycle. Whether you use hot water or warm water MelaBrite Plus Oxi provides the extra cleaning power of enzymes and oxygen bleach. In addition The Melaleuca Wellness Guide recommends adding 1 ounce of Sol-U-Mel to the rinse water of the washing cycle when laundering undergarments.
Cranberry For Prevention Of UTIs
Medical News Daily reports on the effect of cranberry juice on E.coli bacteria, the most common cause of urinary tract infections. Researchers found that cranberry juice disrupts E.coli from forming biofilms, slimy layers that allow the bacteria to multiply and cause infection. Cranberry helps prevent bacteria from sticking, allowing the bacteria to be flushed out of the urinary tract.
CranBarrier Urinary Tract Support
The Melaleuca Wellness Guide recommends taking CranBarrier Urinary Tract Support daily to prevent urinary tract infections. CranBarrier is unique in that it contains cranberry, blueberry, and uva ursi (bearberry) extracts. Uva ursi has a long history of being used for urinary tract infections. The uva ursi berries help reduce inflammation and edema in the urinary tract. Two tasty, chewable tablets of CranBarrier contain 1000mg of cranberry extract. This is the amount that is found in ten ounces of pure undiluted cranberry juice. (Pure cranberry juice has a strong, sour taste most people don't like.) It would take up to 32 ounces of diluted, sweetened, juice drink (cocktail), to take in the recommended 1000mg of cranberry extract.
Probiotics can also aid in the fight against infection-causing bacteria. Since lactobacillus is the principal good-bacteria in the urogenital 'flora' of healthy premenopausal women, it follows that lactobacillus probiotics would be helpful in the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections. A review of several studies found evidence that probiotics can be beneficial for preventing recurrent UTI in women.
Florify contains a blend of 10 billion colony units made up from a combination of seven strains of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium lactis flora. Lactobacillus is the prevalent good bacteria in the small intestine and Bifidobacterium is the most dominant good bacteria in the large intestine.

NEW! Essential Oils Booklet
Practical Guide to Essential Oils with References and Traditional Uses
Plants have been used for thousands of years to help heal, soothe and alter moods. We can imagine early man experimenting with stems, leaves, barks and roots, noting which reduced pain, which reduced swelling, which were calming, and which were stimulating. By trial and error remedies were discovered, and cherished traditional treatments were passed on from generation to generation.
An "essential oil" is the highly concentrated "essence" of the plant from which it was derived. Today research is beginning to explain some of the mystery behind the art and science of essential oil therapy. Clinical studies are currently underway, and many of these studies confirm the remarkable healing properties of essential oils.
Practical Guide to Essential Oils was written for those who are just beginning to experiment with the healing properties of essential oils. Designed as a primer, it gives the reader a basic understanding of what these natural wonders are, and what they can do. Each chapter is written as an introduction to one of the more commonly used essential oils, explaining how that oil has been traditionally used, how it is used today, and what research there is to confirm its effectiveness. Scientific studies and supportive articles are referenced for additional reading.

I went for a stretch a few years ago where I was getting urinary tract infections about every 6 months. After going on antibiotics the first 2 times and dealing with side affects both times, I decided to try curing the next one myself. I took CranBarrier every 4 hours during the day and drank 4 or 5 cups of Melaleuca Tea every day for 10 days and was able to get rid of the infection without antibiotics. I was able to repeat that success about 6 months later. Then I realized maybe I should drink more water on a daily basis, and have not had a UT infection in about 3 years.
My mom had Parkinson's disease. Her doctor sent us home with a kit for urine samples after one urinary tract infection. I sat her and my brother down and sold them on CranBarrier. Never did she have another! I take it because it gets rid of the 'Got to Go NOW' problem us women often are plagued with. If I miss a couple days I know it, so I keep it on the bathroom counter where I won't forget!
I have a daughter who has been away at college. With her busy lifestyle and stress levels being at an all-time high, she started getting UTI's. After suffering with her first one, she called me up in tears, not really understanding what was going on with her. After helping her to understand the issue, I had her order some of the CranBarrier, and within the next 24 hours after having received it, she said she could feel a huge difference. Within the week her UTI was healed! She now makes sure to keep them on hand! Thanks to Melaleuca we were able to have a natural way to help with the UTI rather than having to use chemical treatments or antibiotics. So relieved!
