If we break a bone, we expect it to heal, and normally it does because our bones are living and growing tissues. We are never too old or too young to take care of our bones. It takes a lifetime of weight-bearing exercise and healthy nutrients to build our bones.
The Melaleuca Wellness Guide tells us that women who are slight of build, smoke cigarettes, fail to exercise, and do not ingest enough usable calcium are prone to develop fractures of large weight-bearing bones after menopause. The spine, pelvis and femoral hip joint areas are most often affected.
According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, in the five to seven years after menopause, women can lose up to twenty percent or more of their bone density.
To keep our bones strong we need to eat a healthy diet with enough calcium and vitamin D. Studies are also pointing to the importance of vitamin K-2.
Research-based evidence suggests that vitamin K-2 may stimulate bone formation and slow down bone resorption (the breakdown and absorption of bone) and prevent age-related osteoporosis fractures.
Vitamin K-1 is naturally found in plant foods, especially green leafy vegetables, but it is not the same as vitamin K-2. And while vitamin K-2 is found in animal-based foods, the research-recommended amounts of vitamin K-2 may be hard to achieve from food alone. K2-D3 Optimal Calcium Delivery contains 90 micrograms of vitamin K2 in the recommended form of MK-7.

Omega-3 fatty acids (also known as n-3 fatty acids) may also help support bone density along with preventing and improving cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune diseases, and some cancers. Vitality Coldwater Omega-3 contains balanced amounts of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids.
Probiotics support a healthy immune system and reduce inflammation, and may also be used to enhance bone health. Florify contains a blend of ten billion colonies from four different strains of Lactobacillus and three different strains of Bifidobacterium.
One Last Note
Studies show that dried plums or prunes help prevent and reverse bone loss.
This article encourages readers to start eating two or three plums per day and slowly increase to perhaps six to ten a day.

Before I knew about Melaleuca, my chiropractor told me my bones looked like sponges and, if I weren't really careful, I could break bones really easily. This was 30 years ago. Then I learned about Melaleuca. It took a while but I was finally convinced to try the vitamins. I had always been taught that we can get all we need from our food. I have always been a healthy and high energy person, so I didn't really notice an energy difference. But what I did find happened to me 4 years ago. I was pretending to be a kid again and took a swing from a heavy rope tied in the top of a big fir tree. As I swung around, I could see that I did not run out far enough. So I drug my feet attempting to stop. My left hip slammed into the tree. My husband said he heard my head hit. Actually what he heard was my femur fracturing into 4 pieces. I would say the tree won! When I got x-rayed and the doctor looked at them, he was amazed. He had repaired this same break in many people before me. From my x-rays he said my bones were a lot stronger than most women in their 60's. After surgery, where they had put a rod in the middle of my bone to repair the fracture, the doctor told my husband that my bones were a lot stronger than he had thought from the exercises. I had started out with the Vitality Pack, but moved to the Peak Performance for women. I attribute my strong bones to my vitamins and doing weight bearing exercise. I do my best to get at least 10,000 steps a day. I believe it takes both. Not only did it prevent bone loss, it rebuilt my bones!
Replenex Extra Strength supplements are amazing! At my doctor's appointment about six years ago he told me that I had the beginning signs of osteoporosis. A year later at my appointment he said that it had increased and I should take something to slow it down. Well I quickly ordered Replenex from Melaleuca and I have faithfully taken one each day since then. Several months ago I visited my doctor and he was amazed! I said I did not have any signs of osteoporosis! I believe it is the Replenex!
After being diagnosed with a bone-eating cancer four years ago, one of the ongoing treatments doctors ordered is a bone-growth medication. Since then I have had regular bone marrow biopsies taken every 6 months or less. Despite the bone growth medication and daily intake of 1,200 mg of calcium with D3 and magnesium, my bones were, in the words of the PA doing the biopsies, "the consistency of eggshells." In February, 2011 I began taking the Vitality Pack which includes Calcium Complete Supplement. Just four months later, my next bone marrow biopsy was much more difficult than ever before. My PA commented that my bones were some of the densest and hardest bones she had ever worked with. Each of the three biopsies since then has had the same result - difficult procedures due to the density of my bones (which is very good!). Thank you Melaleuca!
I am so happy to have the opportunity to share my experience with the Melaleuca products; they are the greatest of its kind. I suffer with severe rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, degenerative joint and disc disease; so you can imagine the kind of pain I suffer every day, especially first thing in the morning; pain, limited mobility, poor mental status. I can go on and on but I won't because I am in a better place since my sponsor introduced me to the Melaleuca products. My bone health and overall health regime is as follows: I take Vitality Essential 50+, Replenex Extra Strength, FiberWise, Proflex20 Shakes, GC control diligently. I have more energy, less pain increased mobility and a better attitude and outlook on life. I started these products this year and I have even lost 20 pounds and I can walk at least a mile three times a week. I would recommend the Melaleuca products to everyone. Sincerely,
During the past couple of years, preventing bone loss has been a big effort of mine. Four years ago my doctor said I was borderline for osteoporosis. I am 71 and have shrunk more than an inch in height, but thankfully I have not started having a rounded back like my mother had. I am not on any prescription medication and did not want to start, so with my doctor's knowledge I did not fill his prescription for Fosamax. It was then that I read Dr. Miriam Nelson's book "Strong Women Stay Young" and learned of clinical studies with people 60 to 90 that had improved both bone and muscle mass by doing strength building exercises three times a week for one year. I followed Nelson's instructions with simple weight bearing exercises at home, started walking and running and even ran a 5K at age 70. Nine months ago I joined a one-hour strength building class that meets twice a week. Two weeks ago I had the bone density test to check up on what help all of this has been. Every one of my Z scores on the test improved from four years ago, and three of those seven scores were average or above. Z scores reflect deviations above or below what's expected of someone of my age, sex, weight and race. Five of the T scores improved - this shows bone density as compared with what is normally expected of female healthy young adults. I started with the Vitality 6 for 50+ to get the calcium and vitamin D that is needed for good bone health. Replenex has been on my order sheets for years, and I now take the extra strength Replenex, but I guess that is more for joint rather than bone health. We eat a lot of calcium-rich dairy foods. For protein we fix a lot of poultry, fish, dry bean dishes, eggs and love nuts and peanut butter! Generally we exclude red meats and sweets, and I do not miss either one. We love lots of veggies and use fruit as our dessert. On occasion we enjoy G'Day Herbal Tea both hot and iced, Proflex 20 Protein Shakes and Access and Attain bars. I'm convinced that good nutrition and exercise are necessary for healthy bodies.
P.S. Thank you so much for your newsletter.
In order to prevent bone loss I do the following; I exercise 5 days a week, I do cardio on a treadmill, running in short bursts for about 15 minutes, I also skip rope (great way to increase your bone density through impact exercise). I also lift weights to increase my muscle mass and I do yoga, stretching causes the muscles to tug on the bones helping to increase their density. I also take Total 50+ which has the best source of calcium available on the marketplace with their Oligo technology. Finally, I eat well; fruits and veggies along with ProFlex for extra Protein, FiberWise for fiber. At 61 I have a few aches but not many and I'm able to work out using the Access Bar to help reduce muscle aches and burn fat to help keep my body lean. Not only do I have strong bones but I feel awesome!
