Migraine Headaches

(Please read our disclaimer)

According to the Migraine Research Foundation over 12% of the population (adults and children) suffer from migraine headaches. Migraines are a chronic disease that reduces quality of life and is the 6th most disabling illness in the world. Sadly the throbbing, pounding, extremely painful, usually one-sided headache often accompanied by nausea, lack of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea is often undiagnosed in children.

It is believed that infant colic may be an early form of migraine. Mothers who had migraines were 2.6 times more likely to have a colicky baby, and children or teens with migraine were 6.6 times more likely to have had colic as a baby.

A migraine headache that last off and on for more than 3 days is very dangerous. The condition is called "status migrainousus" and needs aggressive treatment. Ignoring this type of migraine can be deadly.

New Research

For some people foods high in nitrates such as hot dogs, sausages, bacon and processed meats are migraine triggers. New research is shedding light on why that may be so. According to Science Daily, a study published on October 18, 2016 found that persons who suffer with migraine headaches have more microbes in their mouth and digestive tract with the ability to change nitrates to nitrites and then to nitric oxide. Nitric oxide helps improve blood flow and is considered good for cardiovascular health. Researchers are questioning whether the microbes are connected to the cause or the effect of migraines. We look forward to what this research might mean for migraine prevention and treatment.

More connections have been made between migraines and gut bacteria. A published review found migraines linked to gastrointestinal disorders and bacteria living in our digestive tract. The review notes that our digestive tract is strongly connected to our brain and thus to neurological conditions including migraines. The article also notes that probiotics have been used to treat and prevent colic and strengthen the intestinal gut barrier. A healthy gut barrier is a good and important thing for all of us, and may help prevent migraine headaches.

Precautions When Traveling

As we have stated in the past, migraineurs often notice that vacation and travel triggers migraines. When most of us travel, we usually do not keep to our good eating schedule and healthy diet. Sometimes we forget to take our supplements, and we eat foods that are too rich and lack fiber. "Irregularity" is a common side effect of travel. A study found that healthy elimination reduces migraines.

Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. And when traveling carry convenient FiberWise Breakfast Bars and FiberWise Drink Packets.

All of us need a daily supply of minerals and vitamins. But in the case of those who suffer migraine headaches, a deficiency of vitamins and minerals, especially magnesium, is known to trigger migraine headaches.

A diet high in EPA/DHA Omega-3s significantly decreased headaches. Vitality Coldwater Omega-3 and Vitality Omega-3 Creme Delight contain the ideal balance of DHA and EPA Omega-3 fatty acids.

Peak Performance Nutrition Pack includes ProvexCV along with necessary multivitamins, minerals, and the probiotic Florify which contains a blend of 10 billion colony units of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium lactis. An added benefit of ProvexCV and Provex-Plus is support for vascular health.

For Pain Relief

The Practical Guide to Essential Oils tells us that a solution of 10% peppermint oil diluted in ethanol (alcohol), applied to the forehead and temple areas, was as effective as taking 1000mg of acetaminophen. Please avoid eye area. Dilute in carrier oil such as sweet almond oil or fractionated coconut oil.

The Melaleuca Wellness Guide recommends a gentle massage with Pain-A-Trate for 2 to 3 minutes to the back of the neck, on the temples, and on the sinuses over and under the eye area. Special care should be taken to keep Pain-A-Trate away from getting into your eyes. Pain-A-Trate often relieves tight muscles and promotes blood circulation.

Sleeping too much or too little can be a migraine headache trigger. For those nights when you can't fall asleep take natural, non-habit forming RestEZ Relaxation Support.

Practical Guide to Essential Oils with References and Traditional Uses

Cover of the Practical Guide to Essential Oils

Plants have been used for thousands of years to help heal, soothe and alter moods. We can imagine early man experimenting with stems, leaves, barks and roots, noting which reduced pain, which reduced swelling, which were calming, and which were stimulating. By trial and error remedies were discovered, and cherished traditional treatments were passed on from generation to generation.

An "essential oil" is the highly concentrated "essence" of the plant from which it was derived. Today research is beginning to explain some of the mystery behind the art and science of essential oil therapy. Clinical studies are currently underway, and many of these studies confirm the remarkable healing properties of essential oils.

Practical Guide to Essential Oils was written for those who are just beginning to experiment with the healing properties of essential oils. Designed as a primer, it gives the reader a basic understanding of what these natural wonders are, and what they can do. Each chapter is written as an introduction to one of the more commonly used essential oils, explaining how that oil has been traditionally used, how it is used today, and what research there is to confirm its effectiveness. Scientific studies and supportive articles are referenced for additional reading.

I love using the Pain-A-Trate as opposed to taking the Counteract which works just as well. With the Pain-A-Trate you just have to rub a bit into your forehead, and within less than 10 minutes my headache is gone.

~ Azriel

Melaleuca has come to my rescue! Migraine headaches are really the worst, and often I would have to go into a dark room to get a little relief! But since I used T36-C5 and rubbed it on my temples, and under my nose, I haven't had another migraine. I'm thinking that Melaleuca oil actually prevented future migraines, since I have been taking the Essentials Pack and using the oil and also the Frankincense.

~ Beth

For 30 years I had horrible 12 hour migraines. I couldn't keep anything down, and just had to lay as still as I could in a dark room and pray to sleep. I always said they were connected to my stomach because food that I had eaten several hours previously would come up. It was awful. My last migraine was over 11 years ago after I started taking what was the Vitality 6 pack. I think it was the Florify and ProvexCV that made the difference, plus detoxing my home and personal skin care products. What a blessing to be able to take a trip and not get a migraine, and rarely even get a hint of a headache. If I do get a headache I rub the Pain-A-Trate or Peppermint Oil (diluted) around my temple area and forehead.

~ Anna

Melaleuca became my best and special friend during the most difficult time of my life. I had been suffering from severe migraine headaches for as long as I can remember. The pain and pressure in my head, along with auras and some inability to speak, would send me to the nearest Emergency Room for medical help several times a month. The headaches would cripple my life for up to two weeks at a time before I would get even a few days rest. Then another would come. I had seen many doctors, neurologists, pain clinics, and lastly was sent to UPMC Headache Clinic where they had given me some prescriptions. Needless to say, nothing was working.
In March 2013, after my brief hospital stay, my brother Frank moved in with me to help out. Every day for the next two weeks Frank would come home from work to find me in extreme pain, on the couch with ice packs complaining of a migraine headache. Frank said he was going to try to help me but there were no guarantees. He handed me a bottle of T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil with the following instructions: "put a drop on each temple, then rub a drop across your forehead, apply two drops to the back of your neck and rub in a little; now sit up on the couch and deep breath in and out." I was totally amazed when, in one hour my headache was gone. I was so excited it gave me a new burst of life. I couldn't thank my brother enough. By April 2013, I started on the Vitality 4 pack and converted my home to all Melaleuca products, and life changing events occurred. I no longer suffered from severe migraines since that day, And my blood work showed vast improvements. I thank my brother for introducing me and I thank Melaleuca, The Wellness Company, for giving me new life with meaning!

~ Carol

I was diagnosed with migraine headaches in 1986. I was put on migraine prevention medicine in 1990. I am grateful that it worked. The flip side was the side effects, which included memory loss, speech hesitation and insomnia. I dealt with the side effects as my migraines were controllable. I had not been hospitalized at all! My "aura" with migraines was the day before the headache, when my body would go thru its own "intestinal cleanse". The day of the migraine, in addition to the debilitating head pain, there was the "oral intestinal cleanse". If I could not get this under control I would become dehydrated to the degree I needed hospitalization. When I became a Melaleuca customer my first step was to detoxify my home from the over the counter cleaning products. I have nothing but Melaleuca cleaning products in my home. Over an 11 month time frame I found the vitamins and supplements that would control the migraines (with the exception of weather related migraines).
I made the commitment to slowly wean myself off the medicine. I was taking two pills a day. For every two weeks I stopped taking one. To clarify for 14 days I only took 13 pills, for another two weeks only 12, for another two weeks only 11, and so on. This was the way I chose to not take the medicine since going cold turkey could trigger a seizure. This medicine is what they prescribe for epileptic seizures as well. I have been off the prescription for over a year now! NO MIGRAINES! I don't even get the weather related migraines anymore. I will always be grateful to Melaleuca for the best absorbing vitamins and supplements as well as the natural cleaning products! Headache, smeadache!!

~ Kay

I have suffered from migraine headaches since I was a very young child. I'm now 62. In my family they seem to be an inherited trait. My grandmother had to take daily injections otherwise she would suffer a migraine every day.
Just a few months after Melaleuca first came to Canada, I joined and learned shortly afterward that Pain-A-Trate was recommended for a variety of purposes, including treating migraines. Normally a migraine would take me totally out of the world for at least 2 days of misery with vomiting and being unable to bear any light in the room or any noise. The claims of healing seemed too good to be true, but I tried it and it worked! I lightly rubbed the Pain-A-Trate across my forehead, but also under the hairline at the back of my neck. Then I went to bed and slept. Even the very first time the Pain-A-Trate helped! After a few hours sleep I felt fine. I was able to eat a light meal and rejoin the world. Now, I go a year or more without a migraine. I'm never without a tube of Pain-A-Traite I have one in my purse and one in my tote bag. There's one beside my computer and my bed, in the bathroom and the kitchen. I'm always offering it to friends for a multitude of problems, not just migraines. It helps sore backs and joints. And it's a miracle worker to help dissolve bruises (Because I'm on blood thinners, I bruise easily and often. I use it for them too.) But the best results, as far as I'm concerned, are for curing migraines. I can't live my life without Pain-A-Trate.
