Melaleuca Oil for First Aid

(Please read our disclaimer)

During World War II a bottle of tea tree oil, also known as Melaleuca oil, was standard Government issue in the Australian Army and Navy first aid kits, especially for those soldiers serving in tropical countries.

The Melaleuca Wellness Guide recommends tea tree oil for over 120 conditions and problems. T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil is a "first-aid kit in a bottle" and so much more.

Minor Cuts and Abrasions

A cut or abrasion may seem like a small thing, but if antibiotic resistant Staphylococcus aureus enters the skin through a wound it can cause a life threatening infection.

Many of us carry, without illness, staph bacteria in our nose. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tell us that about one in three (33%) people carry staph in their nose, and two in a hundred people carry MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).

T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil naturally reduces infection risk and soothes irritated skin. It has been tested for effectiveness against MRSA. Tea tree oil preparations were found effective, safe and well tolerated when compared with two topical hospital MRSA treatments.

Cuts and abrasions should be washed and then treated with T36-C5 and MelaGel.

Insect Stings

A few drops of T35-C5 mixed in with Renew Intensive Skin Therapy will soothe insect stings and the same combination repels insects.

An abstract published in the British Journal of Dermatology acknowledged that tea tree oil can alleviate allergic responses, like the itchy reaction suffered after a sting or a bite.

Sunburn and Burns

Sunburn and burn injuries are some of the most common household accidents. It only takes playing out in the sun a bit too long or a distracted moment and quick contact with a hot pot, barbecue grill, burner, or hot curling iron for a burn to occur. Immediately flush a fresh burn with cool water until the area is cool.

The Melaleuca Wellness Guide recommends the application of T36-C5 and a thin coat of Renew Intensive Skin Therapy. Repeat the T36-C5 and Renew every hour until pain is gone.

Third-degree burns require immediate professional care. A third degree burn penetrates into muscle and deep tissue and occasionally chars the flesh.

Cold Sores

Cold sores are caused by a virus and are often triggered by sun exposure. The Melaleuca Wellness Guide recommends that as soon as you feel a cold sore coming on dab T36-C5 on the lesion. Repeat every hour until the lesion either disappears or comes to a head. If it comes to a head continue to apply T36-C5 once every two hours followed by MelaGel. When out in the sun, protect your lips against excessive sun exposure by making it a habit to apply Sun Shades Lip Balm SPF 15.

The recently published Practical Guide to Essential Oils tells us that a laboratory-conducted study found tea tree oil had high levels of antiviral activity against herpes simplex-1 and herpes simplex-2.

First Aid Kit in a Bottle

Enjoy summer and make sure a little bottle of T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil, is at close reach for those first aid moments. It is also easy to carry a little tube or disk of MelaGel and a purse size tube of Renew.

Essential Oils Booklet

Practical Guide to Essential Oils with References and Traditional Uses

Cover of the Practical Guide to Essential Oils

Plants have been used for thousands of years to help heal, soothe and alter moods. We can imagine early man experimenting with stems, leaves, barks and roots, noting which reduced pain, which reduced swelling, which were calming, and which were stimulating. By trial and error remedies were discovered, and cherished traditional treatments were passed on from generation to generation.

An "essential oil" is the highly concentrated "essence" of the plant from which it was derived. Today research is beginning to explain some of the mystery behind the art and science of essential oil therapy. Clinical studies are currently underway, and many of these studies confirm the remarkable healing properties of essential oils.

Practical Guide to Essential Oils was written for those who are just beginning to experiment with the healing properties of essential oils. Designed as a primer, it gives the reader a basic understanding of what these natural wonders are, and what they can do. Each chapter is written as an introduction to one of the more commonly used essential oils, explaining how that oil has been traditionally used, how it is used today, and what research there is to confirm its effectiveness. Scientific studies and supportive articles are referenced for additional reading.

I traveled to Australia to visit with my son. During the night my room was invaded by ants and they bit up my leg while I was sleeping. When I awoke I was itching uncontrollably, I immediately reached for my Melaleuca Oil and Renew lotion, mixed them together and applied to the bites. Within minutes all visible signs were gone and the itching ceased. I then found the entry point and placed some Melaleuca oil on a wash cloth and laid it close. No more ants!!

~ Liz

I have so many personal testimonies on how we use the Melaleuca oil. Everything from killing lice, soothing burns, ulcers in the mouth, toothaches, and in our home-made mosquito spray using other Melaleuca products. The most recent use was again for a burn while baking homemade cinnamon rolls last week. I had just taken the pan out of the oven and placed on top of stove. The pan wasn't quite straight so I reached for it with a tight grip to move it and I dropped it quick, telling my daughter to run for the Melaleuca oil. I applied the oil on my burnt fingers and began feeling immediate relief. I applied to my fingers a couple more times. Pain was relieved within an hour and no blisters. A bottle of Melaleuca oil is a must have in every medicine cabinet.

I have diabetic neuropathy in my feet. I have tried a lot of things to cut the burning so I could sleep and never succeeded very well until I combined Renew lotion with a couple drops of Melaleuca oil and rubbed it into my feet before bed. I still have some nights when my feet still bother me a little but they are so much better when I use the lotion/oil combo on them. I keep the lotion by my bed so I can use it during the night if needed.

My Melaleuca Oil story happened in 1995. My girlfriend was bitten by a Brown Recluse spider and when I saw her leg, the bite was the size of a quarter and very infected. Several weeks later I visited her in the hospital and the infection was the length of her calf and became a gangrenous necrotic wound. The doctor was going to amputate her leg the following week and I gave her some T36-C7 oil for her to try, as I thought it may help because it was "the wonder from down under!" Three days later her doctors were amazed as it started to heal and after a period of time it was completely healed!!! Her leg no longer required amputation. What an amazing effective oil! I LOVE our Melaleuca alternifolia oil. And, I love that it is found in many of our products.

I've been a Melaleuca customer for 24 years, and T36-C5 has come to the rescue on many occasions. Most recently, I was holding the string of a tea bag to steady it in my cup as I began to pour. Boiling water bubbled out of the spout and on to my hand. After cooling my hand under running water, I applied T36-C5 several times through the day - no blisters!

On a camping trip, my sister was stung by a bee and the area welted up and became red - I applied the oil and within minutes, the swelling was gone and the pain subsided. It puffed up once more a couple of hours later, but again the oil took it down in minutes. I keep a bottle in my purse and travel bag. I don't leave home without it!

I have a bottle of Melaleuca T36-C5 in my purse, in medicine cabinet, in our kitchen and in our 9 year old daughter's fishing tackle box. We use it for everything from bug bites, toothaches, strep throat, mouth ulcers and even lice. Yes, the nasty "L" word. Our middle daughter had come home with lice from a friend's house. I used Melaleuca oil and Sol-U-Mel, then wrapped her head in Saran Wrap for about two hours, and used a nit comb to get the eggs and lice out of her hair. I then washed her hair with the Original Melaleuca Shampoo. I repeated this process every other day for a week to make sure there were no lice. We love the Melaleuca oil. I added a few drops to an 8 oz. bottle of Renew lotion to use as insect repellent.

My husband, one early nice warm spring day, decided to clean up his Zodiac in the driveway. He was outside all day washing, cleaning and organizing. Once he came inside and took a shower his forehead was burned from being exposed to the sun and wind all day. I used Melaleuca T36-C5 with some coconut oil on his forehead. The next day not a blister or pain, it was completely fine. Thank you Melaleuca!

~ Gwen

When my daughter was 3, we lived out in the country where she loved going barefoot. Unfortunately, we had a lot of red ants which she always seemed to step on! When they'd start biting her feet, she'd tell me "Melaleuca mommy!" I would soak her feet in water and Melaleuca oil, and the pain and itching would immediately stop! I swear that if we could have purchased Melaleuca oil by the gallon then, we would have!

~ Barrie

Our dog had surgery on his leg. About three weeks later he developed an abscess under the well-healed incision line. The bump was about the size of a hydrated garbanzo bean. I applied our T40-C3 Melaleuca Oil, just a drop, directly on the bump and again about 12 hours later. The next day, the size of the bump was reduced to the size of a pea! I repeated the application two more times and the entire issue was gone! One can only imagine the savings from this treatment: financial, time in trips to clinic, and discomfort to our dog! Love our Melaleuca Oil!

~ Michele

During our evacuation for Hurricane Ike, I developed a toothache with my jaw swollen from abscess, very painful! So, I took a couple of drops of Melaleuca oil in some warm water to rinse my mouth. I did this 3 times one day. Each time I could feel a difference in my pain level. I was able to sleep that night with no pain and the next day, my jaw was no longer swollen and the abscess was gone. I did make it to the dentist after a week or so and he filled the cavity. It is amazing oil for everything. Thank you,

~ Elaine

The first accidental burn after I started with Melaleuca products was a burn from hot glue working on a project. The skin had turned white before I could pull it off. My first impulse was to run for my Aloe Vera plant that I had used quite successfully for burns for many years. Then I remembered the T36-C5! I put it on my burn and a moment later I realized the pain WAS GONE! Aloe Vera soothes a burn but this took the pain away! Awesome! I finished my project and took the bottle to bed with me, fully expecting to need it during the night. I woke up the next morning with NO BLISTER! Hard to believe but it is a fact. Now I use it on EVERYTHING with fantastic results. Even on my Show Dairy Goats for pain relief when I disbud them, treat ring worm, and any injury that comes along on any and all my animals.
