Dry skin can be more than a discomfort or cosmetic problem. If skin is too dry or damaged, its function as a protective barrier is damaged. Dry, cracked skin can become red, irritated and itchy. Although not common, it can become infected.

Some persons carry Staphylococcus aureus (staph) bacteria inside their nose or on their skin. They may show no signs of infection unless bacteria get into their skin through a break or crack.

The Melaleuca Wellness Guide tells us that aging, excessive sun exposure, and environmental stress can over-dry our skin. Hands that are washed frequently can develop very dry cracked skin, including those annoying dry cuticles, and be more susceptible to "paper cuts." When the skin around our fingernails tears off, it is irritated and can become infected. Daily applications of moisturizer help protect skin, but excessively dry irritated skin benefits from an extra protective, healing barrier.

MelaGel Ingredients

MelaGel contains a unique combination of soothing, moisturizing and antiseptic ingredients. It contains the moisturizers wheat germ oil and cocoa butter. Patented MelaGel contains 23% T36-C5 Melaleuca oil.

The just published book Practical Guide to Essential Oils tells us that Melaleuca alternifolia oil is effective at treating Staphylococcus aureus, both methicillin-resistant and methicillin–sensitive. See the following study: Staphylococcus aureus and wounds: a review of tea tree oil as a promising antimicrobial.

Beeswax helps Melaleuca oil and other botanicals cling to our skin like an invisible bandage. It adds a protective anti-inflammatory skin barrier.

When using skin care products remember to apply first the lightest lotions, layering heavier moisturizers over lighter products. To more effectively treat wounds first apply T36-C5 and then seal with MelaGel.

The Melaleuca Wellness Guide recommends MelaGel for over 40 conditions. Liberally applying Renew Skin Therapy and MelaGel to cracked or infected areas, they will instantly look and feel better.

NEW! Essential Oils Booklet

Practical Guide to Essential Oils with References and Traditional Uses

Essential Oils booklet cover

Plants have been used for thousands of years to help heal, soothe and alter moods. We can imagine early man experimenting with stems, leaves, barks and roots, noting which reduced pain, which reduced swelling, which were calming, and which were stimulating. By trial and error remedies were discovered, and cherished traditional treatments were passed on from generation to generation.

An "essential oil" is the highly concentrated "essence" of the plant from which it was derived. Today research is beginning to explain some of the mystery behind the art and science of essential oil therapy. Clinical studies are currently underway, and many of these studies confirm the remarkable healing properties of essential oils.

Practical Guide to Essential Oils was written for those who are just beginning to experiment with the healing properties of essential oils. Designed as a primer, it gives the reader a basic understanding of what these natural wonders are, and what they can do. Each chapter is written as an introduction to one of the more commonly used essential oils, explaining how that oil has been traditionally used, how it is used today, and what research there is to confirm its effectiveness. Scientific studies and supportive articles are referenced for additional reading.

I love the MelaGel! I have recurring issues with boils in my nose and the MelaGel kills them within two days. After the first application of the MelaGel the pain is greatly reduced. I no longer have to suffer for a week or more, and I am so excited about that!

I work in the shipping area of my store and if you've ever seen a tape gun you know about the teeth. They are sharp. I was taping a box when the gun slipped and the teeth bit top to bottom of my index finger. By the time I got to the bathroom there was a small pool of blood in my hand. I washed it and put on the cream in the medicine box with a few band-aids on it. It throbbed every time I put my hand down. I was new to Melaleuca and didn't have MelaGel with me. When I got home I checked my finger and washed it. I put a thick thread of the MelaGel on it and fresh band-aids. Within 20 minutes it stopped hurting and throbbing, and I was able to do my normal stuff at home without concerns. The next morning I decided to change the band-aids. The wound was completely sealed and there was a small ridge of dead skin on each side and no pain or chance of bleeding. I was amazed, and keep a tube with me ever since. Another story: I had given a tube to a friend and she had boiling hot water scald her hand from her tea. She thought that it would blister and peel, but she applied the MelaGel several times a day for a few days and the hand never blistered or peeled, and was actually normal looking without pain in two days. I love the products and am always amazed with how wonderful they work. Thanks.

We consider Mel-A-Gel our first aid kit in a disc or tube. We use Mel-A-Gel frequently for any scratches, scrapes, bug bites or stings, or a burn. I have found it to be useful for a hangnail, and even for chapped lips. I keep a disc in each of my two purses, and in my travel bag when we go on a trip. My husband had some mules and horses a few years ago. One day, he left on a trip to go pick up some hay bales for his animals. As he put the goose-neck trailer on the back of his truck, there was a nest of wasps underneath the neck of the trailer. As he reached up to attach the trailer, a swarm of wasps came out and stung him on the arm about seven times. I went home to get the Mel-A-Gel to put on the stings. He did this, and then drove on his way to pick up the hay. About 20 miles on down the road, the stings calmed down, and he had no more discomfort or pain. Thank you, Melaleuca, for the wonderful gift of Mel-A-Gel! We use it often!

Oh... my MelaGel is never far away! I have used it on just about everything! First thing I reach for to take care of minor burns, cuts, mosquito-ant bites and everyday ouchies. It doesn't sting and it quickly relieves pain. I also use it on my cuticles every day. Two quick stories: When I was new to Melaleuca, I burned my hand taking something out of the oven, I put MelaGel on it and the pain left and there was no red mark. A few days later, I was at my Mom's house and burned a different spot on my hand. I didn't have MelaGel with me and this burn left a mark. I made sure to keep some in my purse after that. Another time I was grateful for that tube in my purse. I was delivering a Membership kit to a new customer and a bee stung me while I was at her door. I carefully brushed off the stinger and quickly got out my tube of MelaGel and put a good dollop on the spot. Within 10 minutes the pain was virtually gone, and a few hours later I felt like the sting had never happened. Love, love, love MelaGel!

I received the MelaGel in my Value Pack and if I didn't receive that in there, I'm not sure I would have ever bought the MelaGel… I do have to say, this is one of my favorite products!!! I have very dry feet and, every once in a while, I'll have cracks and splitting due to weather… Well I simply put the MelaGel on my affected area with a Band-Aid and, I kid you not, it only takes one application and in a few hours or overnight my feet are smooth as can be and no more cracking!! I used MelaGel on occasional breakouts, and razor bumps. I recommend this product to all my customers!! My one customer's husband always has cracked and bleeding hands due to his work. He uses it every day, and is now addicted to it as well!! Thank you Melaleuca for another awesome product!!

MelaGel is one of the reasons I will NEVER stop being a Melaleuca customer. I have regular, periodic outbreaks of herpes on my back. Before MelaGel, I either had to take costly prescription pills or suffer itchy, oozing blisters then scabs for a couple of weeks. Now, as soon as I sense an outbreak coming on I apply MelaGel. Within 24 hours the itching is gone, and no blisters or scabs develop. It's completely gone in about 4 days. No more risks from the prescription, and no more suffering for two weeks. PS: If my story is selected, could I have your new book on essential oils please? Thanks.

I successfully used MelaGel to treat hotspots on my dogs and flea dermatitis on my cat. The odor of the MelaGel kept them from licking the areas. The spots dried up and healed nicely, when other over-the-counter remedies had not worked. So the MelaGel application saved me some vet bills!

I was preparing for a dinner party and poured boiling water right from the kettle on the palm of my hand. I immediately grabbed my tube of MelaGel and liberally spread it on. I then covered my hand with a cotton glove as I had to finish getting ready for dinner. The pain continued for a short time, but to the amazement of my quests, when I took off the glove after about 30 minutes the skin on my palm was normal. I had no more pain and never got a blister.

My grandson was visiting when he came screaming into the house. He had been stung on both temples. I told him Grandma had some magic medicine that would help. I grabbed my MelaGel and put some on both bee stings. Then I set him down with the box of Legos. About half an hour later I asked about his bee stings. He had to think about it as he had forgotten all about them. Every time he got an "owie" he came for more of grandma's magic medicine. When he went home, I sent some with him. His mom later set up her own account. Thank you Melaleuca for such great products. I always carry MelaGel for all kinds of things from bug bites, bruises, burns, scratches, etc.
