How Do You Care for Your Feet and Toenails?

(Please read our disclaimer)

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in three people carry staph in their nose, and two in a hundred carry MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). Many healthy people can carry MRSA without becoming sick. They may not know they carry MRSA until they get a cut or crack in the skin and develop a difficult-to-heal infection.

Science Daily tells us that more Americans are developing MRSA from minor foot problems, such as athlete's foot and ingrown toenails.

The Melaleuca Wellness Guide has a detailed section on the subject of athlete's foot. Athlete's foot usually appears as an itching, burning inflammation between the toes. It can move to toenails, even damaging the nail plate. Nails can become thick and discolored and even crumble. This fungal infection is contagious. You can catch it from people, damp floors or even animals.

Athlete's Foot Treatment

The recently published Practical Guide to Essential Oils tells us that tea tree oil was found effective against twenty-six strains of various dermatophyte species (types of fungus that grow on skin and cause fungal infections such as: tinea, athlete's foot, and ringworm).

For a severe case of athlete's foot, put 4 tbsp of Sol-U-Mel in hot water and soak feet for 20 to 30 minutes, morning and night, for one week. After soaking, carefully dry feet, especially in-between toes. Apply T36-C-5 followed by MelaGel which contains 23% T36-C5 plus cocoa butter and natural beeswax. Be sure to wear clean white cotton socks, changing them daily. Dribble a few drops of T36-C5 on clean socks and rub them together before putting them on. At home, and whenever possible, wear sandals. Keep feet dry and clean.

Reinfection is common. Continue to use treatment for a week or two after healing. To avoid infecting other family members, spray shower and bathtub surfaces as well as bathroom floors with Sol-U-Guard Botanical Disinfectant. (Never use Sol-U-Guard on natural stone surfaces.) Instead of a decorative bath mat, lay down a small towel that can be used after a shower and easily laundered. Always wear bathing slippers in public swimming pools or showers. Keep those sandals on when walking around a hotel room. After bathing, apply Renew Lotion which is enhanced with T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil.

Ingrown Toenails

The Melaleuca Wellness Guide tells us that ingrown toenails are usually due to poorly fitting shoes. Toenails should not be trimmed in a rounded fashion, as this actually causes further ingrown toenails.

As soon as you notice that a toenail is becoming ingrown, stop what you are doing and treat it. This will help avoid a painful infection. If possible, carefully remove the ingrown part of the nail but don't cut toenails too short. Soak the foot for 15 minutes in a solution of 1 oz of Sol-U-Mel per quart of hot water. Dry thoroughly. Apply morning and night T36-C5 followed by MelaGel. You can also add a drop of T36-C5 to a bit of cotton (from a cotton swab or cotton ball) and tuck it under the edge of the toenail. This will help the nail grow out over the skin and not into the side of the skin. Change the cotton daily.

Essential Oils

Try this blend: Melaleuca and Lavender essential oils are effective against both bacteria and fungi. To help prevent fungal infections, along with keeping toenails clean and cuticles soft, apply this blend to each toenail: In a dropper bottle mix together 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) coconut carrier oil, 9 drops lavender oil, and 15 drops tea tree oil. Apply to toenails after showering.

Take a few moments to care for your feet. Keep them clean and dry. This will not only help them look better in sandals but will also help prevent infections. If you have a toenail fungal infection, know that you may need to naturally treat it for the months it takes for a new healthy toenail to grow out.

Feet and Toenails Testimonials

My husband is diabetic and has a lot of pain in his feet. This morning I rubbed Pain-A-Trate on the bottom of his feet. Later that very same day, he mentioned to our daughter that his feet were beginning to feel somewhat better already. He is looking forward to more applications and less pain!

I've been a customer for 2-1/2 years, and the reason I became a customer is because I have very dry skin, especially my feet!! When I was introduced to the Renew lotion, I knew I had nothing to lose, since every product is money back guaranteed! Well, of course I ordered the Renew in my first order and I put Renew on my feet with socks for 3 days and it was like I had baby feet!! Well the next summer my feet were really dry again, with little cuts and with a burning sensation, and my big toe was infected... I put MelaGel on the cuts with a Band-Aid and Melaleuca oil on my big toe, and within 2 days, both gone. I love these products!! Thank you Melaleuca!!

I love getting my feet summer ready using the Body Satin Foot Scrub and the Foot Lotion, along with the Foot Spray. This pack helps my feet look and feel their best. However, several years ago I began having problems with the nail on my right big toe. It started after it was smashed by dropping something on it followed by my young daughter stepping on it a few times. It was very painful, discolored and began growing abnormally. My children started teasing me that I had an "old lady toenail." So off to the doctor I went (very stupidly not even trying any of my products!) He cultured it and said it was a fungal infection. He prescribed a prescription medication called Lamisil and said I needed to have my liver enzymes checked before, while taking this medication and after. I didn't like the sound of that, but it was so sore, I took what he gave me and off I went. The medication did help some, but didn't completely heal it. So back I went. This time he wanted to prescribe another round of the same medication, and this included more blood work to watch my liver. He also wanted me to apply a cream to my whole foot twice a day to heal any fungus lingering elsewhere on my foot. He also said if it didn't heal this time he would need to remove my toenail! Then FINALLY the light bulb went on! Home I went. I did not fill this prescription. I went home, and after showering applied T40-C3 Melaleuca Oil so that it ran under my nail and all around the top of it. Then I applied the Dermatin to the skin all over my foot, using both twice a day. Within days it felt better! Less pain! I kept using this routine until a noticeable difference was felt and seen. I then switched to using T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil while it continued healing. It took several months for the damaged nail to grow out being replaced with a healthy nail. I now, years later, have a healthy toenail, and most importantly, a healthy liver!

Renew Lotion, makes my feet feel really good, also, Dermatin, of course, has helped with toenail fungus, It is so important for our feet to be comfortable and well cared for. Sincerely,

I'm a barefoot person around the house and wear sandals in the summer a lot. Before Melaleuca I had a real problem with dried cracked heels. I use Renew on my heels daily and have eliminated dry heels. If I've been exposed to extra dirt through gardening, I sometimes use Renew on my feet then cover with socks. This really softens things up quickly. I also sometimes have a problem with a fungus on my big toenails. It starts along the edge of the nail. I usually don't notice it until a white line begins to develop. I apply T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil with a cotton swab a couple of times daily. The nail appears discolored by this, but it grows out and can be clipped off. In order to prevent recurrences, I apply T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil for a couple of weeks after there are no signs of the discoloration. I have been able to avoid it spreading to the whole nail — it just stays right along the edge.

My husband had a terrible fungus under his big toe nail. The doctor tried treating it with a cream. It didn't work. Then, the doctor wanted to give him a prescription medication. I decided to take a look at my "go to book", your Melaleuca Wellness Guide. First I had him soak every night in a mixture of a cap of Sol-U-Mel and warm water. Afterwards, we dried the area very well and applied Melaleuca Dermatin Antifungal Cream at night. In the morning he applied MelaGel with a drop of T36-C5. It did take awhile to totally clear but he saw results within the first week. Now, totally gone and no drugs.

I have the worst cracked heels you can ever imagine. I wish I could show everyone a before and after photo. You name it, I've used it. My dermatologist prescribed something that was OK but didn't help enough. I use MelaGel on everything so I thought, why not give it a try. I lathered my heels with MelaGel and put on a pair of light white cotton socks before bed. No exaggeration, I had noticeable results the next morning. I continued this for several weeks and I can't believe the difference. I've told everyone about this who has ever mentioned this problem. Anyone who has tried it has the same great results. It's AMAZING. You've gotta try it. It really works and so simple, plus no questionable prescription creams. One simple solution.

I had to laugh because the subject of toenail and fingernail fungus is one I actually hold dear to my heart. DERMATIN is my go-to cream, in my makeup case and medicine cabinet. The Melaleuca oil and the Clotrimazole in this wonderful cream combine to make the very best anti fungal treatment. Also soak your nails in Sol-U-Mel. I think for those of us with persistent nail problems, patience and persistence are the watchwords. I sometimes blow dry my nails and put on Dermatin, then cover with a Band-Aid to assure that the cream stays in place. It may be the only product on earth that combines the two ingredients known to work. Honest guys Google NIH.gov and toenail fungus... The two medications used to defeat this are the two ingredients in Dermatin. I love this product!
