Our world depends on chemicals, many of which are considered essential to modern life. The EPA tells us that some chemicals break down quickly while others remain for a long time in our environment and may build up in the food chain. Avoiding harmful chemicals requires we make safe choices not only when choosing what to eat, but also when choosing household cleaning products and personal care products. Chemicals can enter our bodies through our mouth, lungs, or skin.
The Melaleuca Wellness Guide tells us that poisoning by inhalation can be much more harmful than ingestion. When something harmful is swallowed, the stomach actually begins breaking down and neutralizing the poison before it is absorbed into the bloodstream. However, when you inhale toxic fumes, the poisons go directly into the bloodstream and quickly travel to organs like the brain, heart, liver, and kidneys. We also learn that airborne chemical levels are much higher indoors than outdoors, especially in homes that are airtight. Deteriorated indoor air quality can lead to long term and short term health issues. To help understand how toxic exposure can immediately affect us, take the example of a hangover. The aches, pain, and nausea are side-effects of non-lethal ethanol poisoning (getting drunk). Poor air quality caused by chemical fumes and pollution can also lead to days of feeling 'hung over,' along with aches, pains, and nausea.
Phthalates are chemicals found in some plastics and fragrances. Reading label ingredients does not help us avoid phthalates as they are not required to be listed on labels even though some are known hormone-disrupters. Phthalates can be found in air fresheners, plastics, cosmetics, personal care products, and more.
Recently researchers discovered that women with high levels of phthalates in their blood or urine were more likely to go through menopause earlier. Early menopause has been linked to increased bone loss, heart disease, and strokes.
WebMD reports on a study that shows a possible connection to an increased risk of developing diabetes in those having higher blood levels of some phthalates.
The risk of developing asthma is also increased in persons who work in the cleansing industry. Researchers found that having a cleaning job increased the risk of developing asthma even more than smoking!
Everyone is at risk when exposed on a daily basis to chemicals in their homes. Children, the elderly, pregnant women, those with chronic disease, cancer patients, and those with allergies, migraines, and asthma are at highest risk from the effects of toxics.
Seemingly ordinary everyday choices can have a big impact in our lives. Melaleuca's complete product line, whether cleaning products or personal care products, do not have phthalates, BPA plastics or toxic fumes.

Thank you so much for your newsletter! We have lived in a chemical-free household for three years, thanks to Melaleuca. Sol-U-Guard Botanical has replaced all disinfectants, and it works SO WELL, as this family of nine does not know what sick is! If one or two get the common cold or flu symptoms, it is over before one full day is up, and it DOES NOT get through to everyone because we use Activate Immune Complex drink or supplement, Sustain Sport, Melaleuca Oil Baths, and MelaGel to keep healthy.
Sol-U-Mel has replaced all stain removers, sticker remover, and deodorizer. And we use it to shampoo and deodorize carpets and car upholstery. We are now an influenza, allergy, asthma symptoms, and diabetes FREE family! We have even beaten a staph infection with only Melaleuca's first aid products, when it came back after antibiotic use. All incredible testimonies as to how thankful we are for the safe healing power of CHEMICAL-FREE affordable solutions at Melaleuca!
Hello! Thanks so much for your publication. I have been a Melaleuca fan for three years. We avoid chemicals by using the cleaners for aphid, spider, ant, and wasp control. All our animals are treated with fly sprays, dry shampoos, and wound care made with Melaleuca recipes. All plants inside and out are treated non-chemically. Even the horse pasture is sprayed, and the fly population is decimated. If there is a need, we find a Melaleuca solution in this house. Forever grateful that our daughter is a Melaleuca baby from prenatal to now! As of this week we are debt-free, except mortgage, with me earning my Melaleuca income and being home with her! Sharing a chemical-free life is an amazing way to live.
Avoiding Harmful Chemicals: The best way we have found to avoid harmful chemicals is by converting our home to the safe Melaleuca products. That has been one of the best shopping decisions we have ever made over six years ago. Some of our family members use laundry products from the grocery store. When we travel to their home for the weekend or longer, we take our own towels, shampoo, bar soap, and Renew Lotion. Those items just stay inside our travel bag, and we never have to repack them. I can't imagine going back to using grocery store products! Melaleuca has made such a difference in the health and well-being of my husband, and me. I am grateful to a dear friend who introduced us to this wonderful company.
