Most of the hair on our head is in the growing stage. After growing for a few years hair will enter into the resting stage and then into a shedding stage that lasts two to three months. This hair growth cycle continues throughout our life unless interrupted.
Some conditions can cause a large number of hairs to prematurely enter into the resting and shedding phase. After giving birth, some women will lose up to one-third of their head hair but will quickly grow it back within the year if properly nourished. Stressful events, such as a high fever, infection, malnutrition, or excessive dieting can cause severe hair loss six weeks to three months after the event. Hair loss is also a symptom of several autoimmune diseases.
Diet and Healthy Hair
A highly processed diet may lack needed vitamins and nutrients resulting in malnutrition. Without proper nutrition, the body uses available nutrients to first nourish more important functions that keep us alive, although we may suffer hair loss and other health problems.
Colorful fruits and vegetables and omega-3 fatty acids are known to provide healthy-hair nutrition.
A nutritious diet that contains adequate calories and protein is crucial. Proflex20 is an easy and delicious way to add necessary protein to the diet.

Hair, Skin & Nail was developed to protect and support the growth and strength of hair, skin, and nails with natural botanicals, essential micronutrients, and natural antioxidants.
The Melaleuca Wellness Guide tells us that after an extensive study of about one thousand plant extracts, researchers in Japan discovered that proanthocyanidins possess remarkable hair-cycle-converting activity. ProvexCV and Provex-Plus contain potent forms of proanthocyanidins from grape seed extract.
Heart Disease Indicator
Hair loss, along with other signs of aging, may indicate the development of heart disease. In this study researchers looked at young men with premature grey hair and male pattern baldness and found a higher risk for developing coronary artery disease. The researchers recommend that young men who are turning grey and developing male pattern be monitored for coronary artery disease.

Good to Know
A news article I recently read truly makes me realize that what is good for one part of the body is often good for the rest of the body. It also makes us marvel at the “world” of microbes that live in us and on us, and how instead of killing these little helpers we need to nurture them.
The article tells the story of two men who battled with severe diarrhea caused by an infection with Clostridium difficile also known as C-diff. They also had serious hair loss. Both men were treated with a fecal microbiota transplant, and as a surprising side effect both men regrew their hair!
The Melaleuca Wellness Guide tells us that beneficial bacteria help us digest food, regulate hormones, produce vitamins, and enhance vitamin and mineral absorption. Since both health-benefiting bacteria and harmful bacteria reside in our digestive tract, adding probiotics (good bacteria) helps crowd out harmful bacteria and, oddly enough, produce natural antibiotics which inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria throughout the GI tract. Taking probiotics can add beneficial bacteria to our microbiome.
