One of the easiest things we can do to prolong the good health of your pets is to be careful about what types of cleaning and personal care products we use in our home. Animals are more sensitive to toxic chemical vapors than humans and are more exposed to the ground where vapors accumulate.
Dogs and T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil (tea tree oil)
Dogs appear to do quite well when treated with Sol-U-Mel, Renew Bath Oil, or diluted T36-C5. PRECAUTION: T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil needs to be diluted. There is an increased risk of an adverse reaction the stronger the dilution, the longer it is used, and the larger the area covered (even more so if your dog is light haired or gray). It is better to use a weaker dilution initially over the affected area, and only use for the duration of the first aid application as stated in The Melaleuca Wellness Guide. Do not use over a large area of skin.
The Melaleuca Wellness Guide Lists 50 Ailments That Affect Dogs
Ear infection is one of the top 5 ailments that affect dogs. They can be caused by parasites or a scratch or bite from another dog. When treating the ears, use a dropper and massage the ears after medicating them. Be careful of the animal shaking its head. Do not put the dropper inside the ear. Apply 2 slightly warmed drops of the following mixture, twice each day, until alleviated: 1 - 2 drops of T36-C5 mixed with 2 teaspoons of olive oil. Swab the excess along the flap of the ear with a cotton ball.
Arthritis creates painful inflammation of the joints, usually causing a dog to limp on one or more paws. Just as in treating humans for arthritis, glucosamine and omega supplements are often recommended.
ProCare Hip + Joint Treats for Dogs are formulated with Replenex providing glucosamine and chondroitin powered by Oligo. Your dog will enjoy the barbecue chicken flavor.
ProCare Skin + Coat Treats for Dogs provide Vitality Coldwater Omega-3 to help your dog maintain a healthy, shiny coat. New ProCare Premium Jerky Treats for Dogs are made with salmon. They do not contain grains, sugars, fillers, artificial flavors, artificial preservatives, or artificial colors.
Dog Baths - Bathe your dog with ProCare Professional Pet Shampoo. All you need is a teaspoon of the product and shampoo away! Rinse well and your dog's coat will remain in very good condition. Melaleuca Original Shampoo also has Melaleuca Oil which discourages pests and is an excellent solution if you don't have ProCare Shampoo on hand.
Sunburn - If your dog gets sunburned, give him plenty of drinking water; apply Renew Intensive Skin Therapy or MelaGel to the area 2 or 3 times each day. Keep your pet out of the sun for at least a week.
One Last Note
The National Sanitation Foundation identified pet dishes as the fourth germiest places in a home. The slimy film found in pet dishes is made up of biofilm, a group of hard-to-remove potentially harmful bacteria. Stainless steel, glass or ceramic pet dishes are better than easy-to-scratch plastic pet dishes. To clean and prevent the growth of sticky biofilm, wash pet dishes regularly with safe EcoSense cleaners.

Having used Melaleuca products since the 1990s, I have many stories about using the products for healthy dogs. Before ProCare, I would have my dogs bathed, and ask the groomers to put a capful of Sol-U-Mel in the water to keep bugs at bay. One time, I owned a German shepherd who tore the pad off his paw in play. I wrapped the paw after applying Triple Antibiotic Ointment and Melaleuca oil to it. I only had to change the bandages a couple of times; the paw and pad completely healed. In dog classes that I taught, sometimes, I would apply Melaleuca oil to items or leashes in order for the dogs not to chew them. Presently, I own 2 Belgian Malinois, highly active dogs! The dog beds with sheets on top become smelly. Often, I wash the sheets in the calming Lavender MelaPower, and add Lavender MelaBoost. Nightly, I turn on the diffuser with the Melaleuca Lavender Essential Oil at bedtime when the dogs are at the bedside, to calm them down. Does wonders for calmness, including the husband. Everyone falls fast asleep!
A couple of years ago my Rottweiler started to limp on her front left leg. I took her to the vet, but she found nothing wrong except possibly arthritis. I purchased the same thing I use for arthritis, Melaleuca's Replenex with glucosamine and chondroitin. Within a couple of weeks the limp was gone except if she lays down on a hard surface for a long time. Even then, a short walk and the limp is gone again.
I have a super old, sweet and precious Bassett hound, Freckles. She has arthritis so I load up on the ProCare Hip + Joint Treats for Dogs that have Replenex in them for bone and joint health. She loves the treats, and it's awesome to see this 12 year old, arthritic dog, running full speed across the yard with her tail wagging rather than curled up and laying down to avoid moving. I know they help her and they keep me from having to use the pain medication the vet sold us. We love our fur babies!
Yesterday, I was power washing my patio. The oil cap came loose and erupted a gusher of oil, covering our patio furniture. My Sheltie dog came running through the middle of it. As it stays inside much of the time, what was I to do? "Have no Fear, Melaleuca's ProCare was near!" I put that shampoo on him and, within five minutes, he was back to normal and smelled wonderful. Thanks Melaleuca. Also, my dog used to eat only when he was ready. Now, he eats his am and pm meals immediately; then he forces me to get the ProCare Premium Jerky Treats for Dogs (salmon treat), which I only break in half. He has me well trained!
We have a 7 year old Blue Heeler who loves to herd the horses, goats, and chickens. He got kicked by one of our horses and, for a time, couldn't run around as he could barely move for days afterward. I put him on Replenex and he is able to play with the other dogs and herd the animals again.
I rescued a little dog in Hawaii. His name is Milo from Hilo. When I got him, he was about seven pounds. He was around other dogs and was getting a few ticks and fleas. I started washing him with the ProCare Pet Shampoo, and no more ticks or fleas to this day, several years later! He now weighs fifteen pounds and is a clean, healthy, happy 13 year old dog! Also, everyone thinks he is like a puppy because he runs around so fast! I attribute that to the ProCare Hip and Joint Treats.
We have owned a veterinary hospital for many years in California and now In Oregon. My favorite story is about an older poodle, 10 years+ that came in with almost no fur and arthritis plus diabetes. The dog acted like he was old and had difficulty getting around. We suggested giving the dog one ProVex Plus per day for the arthritis and overall immune system. In a month the dog's hair was at least 50% better, the dog was active again and running around like a 5 year old, and the amount of insulin required was reduced! The owner was mad at me! She said look at her healthy dog, why can't she take that "dog medicine." I explained it was really people natural medicine that we were giving the dog. She decided to start on the Vitality Six (Now Peak Performance) and it significantly improved her arthritis and lupus pain as well!!
