Doctors recommend that we eat 25 to 38 grams of fiber per day, but the average intake for most of us is only about 15 grams. If today you ate bacon, eggs, and cracked-wheat toast for breakfast, and a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch, and for dinner, a steak and potato with a small salad, you would have eaten only about 15 grams of fiber. Meat, eggs, and dairy do not contain fiber. And processed foods often have the fiber "refined" out of them.
If we are not eating enough fiber we can become constipated or have watery stools. Without enough fiber we can develop hemorrhoids or diverticulosis (small pouches in the colon). Fiber helps lower our cholesterol levels and helps reduce inflammation. Fiber-rich foods also help maintain normal blood sugars and may help prevent type 2 diabetes, and can help us lose weight by making us feel fuller so we eat less.
A recent study found that eating plenty of fiber-rich fruit and bread may help us live longer and avoid chronic diseases. It is believed that fiber may lower inflammation in the body. Other studies have found that inflammation plays a strong role in many diseases.
Another study found that getting enough fiber in our diet can help us get a good night's sleep. Eating more saturated fat and more sugar were found to be sleep disrupters.
Our Precious Microbiota
Many of us take probiotics because we know that having a good collection of microorganism living in our gut helps protect our health. Now research is finding that the good bacteria we want residing in our gut need to feed on the fiber that travels though our digestive tract. Scientific American reports that when microbes lack the needed fiber to eat they can start to consume the mucous lining of our gut and may cause inflammation and disease. In addition, the article notes that eating fiber-enriched snack bars helped increase the amount of a of beneficial bacteria found in persons with lower BMI (body mass index).
Kinds of Dietary Fiber
The Melaleuca Wellness Guide tells us that there are two types of dietary fiber, soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber is characterized by its ability to dissolve in water. Soluble fiber is found in oat bran, apples, pears, citrus, legumes, and psyllium. Insoluble fiber can be found in whole grains, whole grain cereals, wheat bran, seeds, celery, cucumbers, and a host of other vegetables. Supplementing the diet with both soluble and insoluble fiber will help promote the elimination of toxins and other wastes. Whenever your daily intake of fiber is increased, it is crucial to increase your water intake as well, because fiber absorbs water.
FiberWise Drink Supplement contains twelve grams of fiber from seven natural sources including inulin, oat, apple, and rice bran, along with digestive soothing herbs, vitamins, antioxidants, and probiotics. You can also find ten grams of fiber in each FiberWise Granola Bar and Cobbler Bar.

As a celiac, it is vital for me to make sure that I have good elimination each day. I hated other solutions that claimed they were gentle, not so. I find with FiberWise (I like the choice of orange, peach or new one berry) that it just adds to my diet and gives me more fiber and bulk in the digestive system. My doctor told me that everyone needs fiber every day because we do not get enough fiber in our diets. A gluten free diet needs fiber as we find a lot of our people get so excited that they can eat goodies again, for example, cakes, cookies, breads, that we tend to get carbs but not a lot of the seeds and fiber of regular baking. I even put my FiberWise in a smoothie in the morning. Never a bad taste like some of the others on the market.
FiberWise helping to resolve bedwetting? Really? Well, it's true! Our son was in his early teens and still struggled with bedwetting (20% of the population does). Finally, the urologist suggested that following a strictly timed routine would likely help. So FiberWise once daily combined with more predictable bathroom trips at school did the trick!! I don't know why, and it really doesn't matter; our son's self esteem is on track! Thank you Melaleuca!
After a fracture to the tailbone early this year, I've not been able to pass motion without the help of laxative. Not wanting to rely on laxative forever, I tried taking fiber, but none of the over-the-shelf brands helped. I was introduced to FiberWise in June by my sister-in-law who convinced me to give it a try and if there's no result, I can return the product for a refund. With that in mind, I gave FiberWise a shot. By the end of the 2nd month, I stopped taking laxatives as I've no problem answering nature's call. FiberWise is now on my daily requirement list.
FiberWise - It's an everyday life saver for me for about as long as it has been offered. Not a pretty topic to mention, but since I had rectal fissure surgery over 10 years ago, personal hygiene has been more challenging in that area. FiberWise allows life to be "normal" again. It's especially helpful for traveling - rescued my 92 year old mother recently on a visit. Believe it or not, I have a cat that has issues with passing stools normally on a regular basis. Yep, FiberWise to the rescue again, as needed. This house is NEVER without FiberWise!
I have had a tendency to have knots in my bowel more than once and that is a very painful experience. That usually happens because of constipation. So I diligently take my FiberWise every day and it has kept me free from problems. Thanks, Melaleuca, for this awesome product!
I used to have digestion problems when I went to a Mexican restaurant eating my so beloved cheese dip. All night long would I suffer from digestion issues that caused me to lose sleep. At one point I just took a FiberWise after my restaurant visit and I had no more problems.
I have a friend (now customer) that complained of being very miserable due to the inability to "go". I told her about the FiberWise and she agreed to try it. She used the individual packets. She raved about the results and how much better she felt after using it! Another co-worker (now customer) of my husband has been using the new berry flavor and puts it in her smoothies. She loves the taste and it has helped her lose weight along with the Metabolic Peak Performance Pack. Last, my father in law is a fiber expert and he absolutely loves the FiberWise Granola Bars!
I have been plagued with elevated cholesterol readings for several years. I take FiberWise every few days for cleansing the plumbing ... it gives a feeling of clean. At the last two doctor visits (every 3 months). My doctor has remarked how good my HDL and LDL readings are. It has to be the FiberWise because I am not doing anything differently. I especially like the Peach flavor ... Love it! Thanks Melaleuca.
I was looking for the best way to add fiber to my diet. I have always eaten what I consider to be a healthy diet. After having a very severe stroke, I began taking FiberWise along with Peak Performance. I won't start my day without it. My health markers are great considering what I went through, and I think Melaleuca is what helped make this possible. I have been able to stay regular without medication, my cholesterol levels are perfect as is my blood pressure and everything else in general.
