EcoSense Products: Diamond Brite and Lemon Brite

(Please read our disclaimer)

"My dishwasher is trying to kill me." With these opening words Science Daily presents research of a potentially disease-causing fungus living in dishwashers, washing machines and coffee machines. A surprising 62% of tested dishwashers contained fungi on the rubber band inside the door, and 56% of the fungi were black yeast known to cause disease and sometimes fatal infections.

Another danger is accidental exposure to caustic, poisonous detergents. PubMed presented a case-study of a man who developed respiratory problems after exposure to a cloud of dishwasher detergent powder. The report concludes with the caution that even routinely handling dishwasher detergent is not entirely risk free.

We also want to add the warnings from the Environmental Protection Agency: Automatic dishwashing detergents can produce skin irritations or burns, and are poisonous if swallowed. Hand dishwashing detergents are not as harsh as automatic dishwashing detergents but, if swallowed, they can still irritate your mouth and throat and cause nausea. They recommend that both detergents be kept away from small children.

The Melaleuca Wellness Guide gives us the following tip when using Diamond Brite: When you first start using Diamond Brite in your dishwasher, run at least one empty cycle with 1 oz of MelaMagic and the regular amount of Diamond Brite. This will clean out any buildup from the commercial soaps previously used. Then use Diamond Brite as directed. If you have soft water or a high efficiency dishwasher, you may need to use less.

Patented Diamond Brite contains no harsh caustic chemicals, and does not require child-resistant caps. It contains a variety of naturally derived enzymes that leave dishes clean and bright without depending on environmentally damaging phosphates and toxic chemicals. It also contains an anti-filming agent that repels water stains. The ingredients in Diamond Brite are 100% nontoxic, and it includes fungus-killing T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil.

The Journal of Applied Microbiology investigated the in vitro antifungal activity of components of Melaleuca alternifolia and concluded that all components of tea tree oil have anti-fungal activity except for one.

Melaleuca Oil is an amazing product. Note that The Melaleuca Wellness Guide, in the Technical Information section, points out that the pure oil of Melaleuca alternifolia is known to contain at least 100 compounds.

Although we may or may not immediately feel the effects, chemicals can enter our body by mouth, skin, or inhalation. Therefore it makes sense, when hand washing dishes or using a dishwasher, to use only nontoxic detergents.

Dishwashing Testimonials

Before the month of March, 2012 I was suffering from eczema on my hands. I developed it from supermarket brand soaps and dishwashing liquids. Nothing helped get rid of my eczema and my skin continued to get irritated. I consulted my doctor, but the only solution was to use a cortisone cream, but that washed off when I would cleanse my hands. Even with that, the problem wouldn't go away. When I discovered this wonderful company, Melaleuca, and enrolled, my enroller suggested that I try the Lemon Brite to hand wash my dishes. I joined with an order and that was one of the products. When my order arrived, I was so excited to take the Lemon Brite out of the box. I opened it and placed some warm water in the sink with a few drops of it into the water. Right away my hands felt soothed. Within a month's time my skin started to improve. I could see the dry skin and itching leaving. My skin is completely better; I no longer have eczema on my hands. Thank you Melaleuca. I am so grateful. You saved my skin.

Diamond Brite and Lemon Brite are both great products to have in your kitchen. Before we became Melaleuca customers, I periodically would walk into my kitchen and smell a bad smell. I would look all over for something that might be causing the smell. Many times it was traced to my dishwasher that was currently running. I concluded that it was the chemicals in the dishwashing liquid reacting with bits of food left on my dishes. I just figured it was something I had to deal with. One day shortly after I started using Diamond Brite I noticed a smell and wondered where that fresh clean scent was coming from. I again traced it to my dishwasher. What a change from the popular brand I had used previously! I no longer have those awful mystery smells coming from my dishwasher. And I end up with wonderfully clean dishes every time -- and I don't pre-rinse or wash them before putting them in the dishwasher. Since I began using Lemon Brite hand dishwashing liquid I have noticed that my dishcloths never get that sour smelly odor. Even after using the same cloth for several days it never smells bad for me. I now throw it in the laundry due to it being dirty rather than because it is a smelly mess. Thank you Melaleuca for giving us such great products to make some of those mundane chores more enjoyable!

I love our Lemon Brite and Diamond Brite, for so many reasons. First of all the Lemon Brite is the only dishwashing liquid that I can put my hands in without them burning and getting all red and dried out. I used to dread doing the dishes as I could not stand the smell of the dish soap as it wafted up in the steam from the hot water, the scent of the Lemon Brite does not bother me at all, and I love the smell of the Green Apple. The scent does not remain on the dishes afterwards, something that always bothers me with the other dish soaps. When I lend out a pot or dish to someone, it always comes back smelling of their dish soap, so I re-wash it in the Lemon Brite before using it. I use the Lemon Brite in my garden as well in dilution to treat my plants for pests, along with the Tough & Tender and Sol-U-Mel, something I learned in The Melaleuca Wellness Guide. It gives me peace of mind to know that I am able to use something safe. The same goes for the Diamond Brite. I always had a hard time with the smell of the other automatic dishwasher detergents. If ever I had to open the dishwasher during a cycle to put in a forgotten dish, the chemical smell from the steam would make me feel ill. However when I do this with the Diamond Brite, the steam just smells like lemons, and I do not feel any ill effects. It also works fantastic, and I have to use so little. If I have a cup with extra tea stains on it, I just spray it with a little PreSpot before putting it in the dishwasher. The Diamond Brite has many other uses as well. I have used it to help pre treat a stain before laundering, a trick I learned in the Wellness Guide, and as a cream cleaner for my ceramic stove top, and to clean my stainless steel sink. I am so grateful for our safe and effective products, and for the solutions in The Melaleuca Wellness Guide. I love reading the information and stories in the Newsletter too. This is such a great resource for us, thank you so much for continuing to do this.

I have been using Diamond Brite not only in my dishwasher, but as a toilet bowl cleaner and kitchen sink cleaner. I have a white porcelain kitchen sink that gets dingy over time. So I just squeeze a small amount, rub around and let sit. When I rinse it is sparkling white.

Oh my goodness these products have been the topic of conversation many times in my life. The Diamond Brite because everyone was complaining about the white sediment their dishwashers were leaving on their dishes. It was so bad one friend had a repairman out. His comment was it was the dishwashing soap she was using; Diamond Brite to the rescue. Now Lemon Bite is another great product that I use all the time to wash my fruits to prevent fruit flies. Also my veggies are cleaned with it. It is great to get the chemicals and dirt off them. Thanks for all your hints...one of my customers was looking through The Melaleuca Wellness Guide today for remedies for her and her house, and putting in her order for things she needed...from warts to helping her puppy with dry skin. It is an amazing book about amazing products.

I love using Lemon Brite. It was one of the first products I used and I was sold. It breaks down grease from dishes so easily, better than any of the concentrated detergents that I had used. The dishes have a great sparkle, and it doesn't dry my hands out like so many of the others did. Just love it and wouldn't use anything else.

~ Diane

When I first started with Melaleuca, I was speaking with a lady who has been using it for five years. The first tip was the Lemon Brite. Use it for cleaning your oven, which I did and what an amazing change. I couldn't believe the difference. No more chemicals used in the oven any more. I love all the products.

~ Lynette

I love the Lemon Brite so much, because my hands no longer feel dry and crack like they used to with other store brands. I find that when I used to store my spaghetti sauces in large plastic containers, they would permanently stay orange, but since using Lemon Brite the containers look so white that you can't tell the sauce was ever in them. As for the Diamond Brite, it says 25 uses on the bottle, but I know I get way more than that. The dishes turn out beautifully.

I live out in the country we have well water. Diamond Brite has made my life so much easier! It is the first dishwasher detergent that I have tried that actually not only gets my dishes clean, my dishes come out without any hard water build up or residue! Absolutely love Diamond Brite and the fact that I can finally use my dishwasher! Thank you Melaleuca!
