This year you or someone in your family will probably catch the latest cold or flu bug and get an earache. If the Eustachian tube, the tube that runs from the inside of the ear to the throat, gets congested, fluid trapped in the ear will cause earaches and possibly infection.

When you or your child is in pain, it may be tempting to ask your doctor for an antibiotic. Indeed, National Public Radio tells us that every year millions of parents take their children to the doctor for ear infections, and most of the children receive antibiotics. And yet 70 percent of children get better on their own within two or three days, and most are better within a week to 10 days. Excessive antibiotic use is contributing to the development of antibiotic resistant superbugs. Antibiotics need to be reserved for a child with a severe infection.

Tea tree oil has long been used as a treatment for ear infections. The Melaleuca Wellness Guide suggests using a drop of T36-C5 or T40-C3 mixed with 15 to 20 drops of warm olive oil. Insert the oil mixture directly into the outside ear canal with a dropper 3 to 4 times daily. Avoid using undiluted, full strength T36-C5 in ears as local irritation can result. A wet warm compress can be made by dropping a few drops of tea tree oil on a wet wash cloth and warming it up in the microwave and holding it against the outer ear. Congestion can be relieved by inhaling the steam from the tea tree oil treated wash cloth. Antihistamines or decongestants are sometimes recommended to help reduce excess trapped fluid.

Children who chew gum that contains xylitol have fewer ear infections. Research demonstrates that xylitol can reduce the risk of the adherence of certain bacteria that cause tooth decay and ear infections. Exceed Sugarless Gum contains xylitol. Help prevent and fight infections by promoting a healthy immune system by consistently taking the Vitality Pack with Oligo or Koala Pals for children.

On more than two occasions, I've followed RM Barry's Melaleuca Wellness Guide recommendations when my son has had earaches, all with successful results. We moistened a cotton ball with some olive oil and a couple of drops of T36-C5 Melaleuca Oil, squeezed out any excess, then placed the ball gently in the outer ear area, careful not to let it enter the inner canal. This proved very effective in relieving his aches, especially because we acted on it upon hearing his first complaint. One time we even put a bit of first aid tape gently across the ball and the outer ear to keep it in place while he went to school. Although my inclination would normally be to refresh the cotton every couple hours to keep the area as clean as possible, I couldn't change his until several hours later. His ear was red, so I became concerned if it had actually made it worse, but he said it didn't hurt anymore even before I removed the ball. After it aired out a bit, the redness disappeared and he was happy as a lark. It just needed to cool off after being covered up all day, as further evidenced by the sweat around the taped area. I also encourage him to chew Melaleuca's Exceed gum, because I had read that xylitol can help reduce ear infections on a sign in the pediatrician's office.

With Melaleuca as my safety net, I know I will be able to treat so many health surprises that may confront my family and me. It's tremendously reassuring to know I'm in the best "hands" with this company's highly effective solutions and the wonderful resources that this publisher provides! I can't thank you enough!

While I was working mobile MRI several years ago, a coworker complained of an excruciating earache. By the end of our work day, being miles away from her doctor and about 9 p.m., she couldn't even get a prescription until sometime the next day. She really didn't know how she was going to get any sleep that night or make it through the next 12+ hours of work the next day before the semi trailer made it back to our home site. I always carried my Melaleuca oil with me so we jogged over to a convenience store for some olive oil, warmed a little up in her room, added a few drops of our tea tree oil, and put her to bed with that and a cotton ball in her ear. The next morning she was amazed! She was hoping it would just get her through the night but her earache was totally gone!

When I first became a customer over 6 years ago I learned how to use tea tree oil as a treatment for earaches. My now almost 7 year old has never had an ear infection, in fact his ear doctor told me, "Whatever you are doing, keep it up because it's working." When he has the first pains of an earache or infection I use it and almost immediately the pain is gone.

As a child I had never had an ear infection. Two years ago I got my first ear infection (as an adult) and boy was it awful. I had never understood when others would describe how much pain went along with a bad earache or ear infection until that day. I tried everything I could think of, from home remedies to old wives tales with no luck. I suffered for 3 weeks straight, and needless to say my nerves were shot. I was at my wits end when my dear friend called to check on me. She heard that I had an ear infection, and had recently been introduced to Melaleuca products. She told me the Melaleuca oil would help if mixed with olive oil (3 drops of Melaleuca oil and 10-15 drops of olive oil). At this point I was ready to try anything, although I didn't have high hopes. She mixed up the concoction and brought it right over. To my astonishment my ear started draining that day after using the oil and continued to get better from then on. That was my first experience with Melaleuca oil and I have never turned back. I continue to use all that Melaleuca has to offer with great success!!

I have been having earaches since I was young. I remember my mom warming up oil and putting a drop or two in my ears. Now over the years I have still had problems with my sinuses and my earaches. I used Melaleuca oil 1 drop in the ear that was aching. Usually I have to do that multiple times with other oils and for several days. With Melaleuca I used 1 drop one time and the pain was gone. Now my earaches happen about 1 time a year. I know the quick fix that works for me.

NOTE: For ears, please always dilute the Melaleuca oil with a neutral oil, like olive oil, as most ears are sensitive to the full strength oil. And the diluted oil works just as well. See The Melaleuca Wellness Guide for more information.

When my granddaughter was only 2 years old, she came to spend the night at my house. I was getting visitors the next day and had several things to accomplish before I went to bed. It was way late, and I was so very tired by the time I was finally ready for bed. When I checked on her she was sobbing softly. Upon asking her what was wrong, she wailed out, "My ear hurts!" Oh my, I thought, how can I help her? My children were all grown, and I hadn't had a need to think about this sort of problem for years! Then T36-C5 came to mind. I warmed a few drops and added a few drops of olive oil to it. I put this into her ears, because at that time both ears were hurting. At least she couldn't tell which one it was. I placed a small cotton ball to keep it from coming back out. In 20 minutes or less, she was fast asleep and slept the rest of the night. She had no more earache problems for a long time. Thank you Melaleuca for such wonderful products!

I sometimes get earaches, and I find that just putting a drop of T36-C5 on a Q-tip and swabbing the outer ear canal it usually does the trick. However, if it is persistent then it is usually due to drainage. Then I can just take CounterAct before I go to bed. The CounterAct Day does it for me.
