From the moment of conception a baby is nourished by what a mother eats. The Melaleuca Wellness Guide tells us that since baby is made from molecular building blocks an expectant mother needs more of all known nutrients. While we are all encouraged to get enough omega-3s in our diet they are especially important to pregnant women. A study found that expectant mothers who eat enough omega-3 fats, especially during the time when fetal brain development speeds up, may give birth to smarter babies. Brain development is most rapid while a baby is in the womb, and continues at a very fast pace until a child is about three years old.
Attention Deficit and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder are found in children and adults who have a reduced attention span and behavioral challenges. Clinical studies indicate that there is a link to dietary and environmental factors. Science Daily reports on a study showing that children with higher levels of omega-3, particularly DHA, had better reading and memory as well as fewer behavior problems. The same researchers had previously shown that supplementation with omega-3s benefits children with ADHD and other related conditions.
Interestingly, a deficiency of omega-3 fatty acid may cause visible symptoms in the hair and skin, along with frequent thirst and urination. One possible sign of an omega-3 deficiency may be small bumps on the back of the arms.
And a 2007 study from the University of South Australia found that some children with ADHD had signs of omega-3 fatty acid deficiency.
We now know that a child's brain will be sculpted by a lifetime of experiences and learning. Good nutrition is "brain-changing" in that it feeds our brain and helps us focus and learn. Children should be taking Koala Pals Multivitamin or tasty Koala Pals Shakeables, a chocolate nutritional shake containing 22 essential vitamins and minerals. Along with the Vitality Pack, omega-3s are crucial for all of us at every stage of our lives. We can choose omega-3s with the correct EPA to DHA ratio from Coldwater Omega-3, delicious Vitality Omega-3 Créme Delight or Prenatal Omega-3 which is designed to support healthy fetal brain and eye development.

When I saw that your next issue would include Better Brain stories, I just had to send mine in! My daughter, 8 years old, has been battling ADHD symptoms since she was 2. At 6, when doctors would finally see her, she began treatment with drugs (I hate giving children drugs, but her issues were BAD). When I discovered Melaleuca, I began giving her the Vitality Pack daily, along with Omega-3 capsules. One drug has been completely eliminated, and rather than being destructive, violent and just plain wild at school, her teacher is raving about how wonderful she is, and how much smarter than the kids her age. She even scores higher than her grade level in many subjects, and that is comparing her to kids in 'regular' classes. (She is still in a contained classroom) I am so happy I found Melaleuca - not only is my family's health better, but I am able to see a day soon when I no longer have to medicate my child!!!
My kids, 12 and 17, both have experienced multiple learning challenges at school. They are both very smart but have not traditionally done well at school because of issues of focus, memory, and processing speed. Last year my 17-year-old would take her vitamins irregularly. Without fail, every time she forgot, her friends would make a comment like "Did you forget your vitamins today?" because she would act more hyper and less able to focus, even in a social conversation! Now she religiously takes Vitality Four, Coldwater Omega, and Provex Plus (for better brain circulation). She is focused, clear-thinking, more responsible, and able to make better judgments for herself. This week she remarked that the teacher could probably talk faster, and she would still be able to process the input. That's a miracle! My son, the 12-year-old, would take his vitamins for a month and then he would forget for a week or two. Invariably, within a week, I would get an email from the teacher complaining about his lack of focus and inability to sit still and learn. Then we would get him back on the vitamins and Coldwater Omega, and usually within a week or two I would get an email saying how pleased the teacher was to see that he was really "maturing". We didn't tell her anything about the supplements because we wanted an unbiased opinion, and her response matched up every time!

Our 23 year old son tasted the Omega 3 Créme Delight and decided to take a bottle back to college with him. He discovered that when he takes it in the morning, he can make connections more easily in his classes. He first noticed it in his daily 3 hour German class. Without it, he reports that the material does not come together as well. As a child, he had many ADD challenges in school. This young man was raised on Melaleuca, but the supplements gave him stomach aches and left him wary of any "pills." The Shakeables, Activate drink mix and Omega 3 Créme Delight are keeping him healthy and thinking clearly for his college Computer Science classes! THANK. YOU. MELALEUCA!!!!!
