Acne and Rosacea

(Please read our disclaimer)

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that is sometimes confused with acne. The conditions are different although both can present bumps that look like pimples. Acne affects adults and teenagers, and rosacea usually appears after the age of forty.

Rosacea might first appear as a bit of redness on the cheeks, forehead, and nose, and then fade, only to return as a brighter flush of red. After repeated episodes small red veins and inflammation can develop on the nose, cheeks, and forehead. Sometimes rosacea is called adult acne because the redness might include papules or small knots. In advanced cases the nose can become enlarged like that of well-known comedian WC Fields.

Spicy foods, alcohol, extreme weather, sun exposure, and stressful events can intensify the symptoms and trigger rosacea flare-ups. Diet is known to play a strong role in acne and rosacea, both as a trigger and for prevention.

Eating foods that cause blood sugar levels to rise quickly can create hormonal changes that increase inflammation and acne. In contrast, a study published in the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine found that a low glycemic diet, a diet that helps maintain healthy blood sugars, reduced acne.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are believed to help fight the eye dryness caused by rosacea, and lessen acne.

Coldwater Omega-3 contains the recommended omega-3 fatty acids with an ideal ratio of DHA and EPA (2:1).

The American Academy of Dermatology notes that daily probiotic use has shown improvement in skin prone to acne or rosacea. Scientists are researching the use of supplementing with probiotics and topically applying probiotics for the treatment of acne and rosacea.

Florify contains a blend of 10 billion colony units of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium lactis.

Tea Tree Oil for Acne and Rosacea

Rosacea sufferers often have sensitive skin. Tea tree oil, with its anti-inflammatory properties, helps reduce swelling and redness with a low incidence of skin dryness or irritation. Skin care products that contain salicylic acid may also help improve rosacea.

Tea tree oil is also very effective in the treatment of acne.

The Melaleuca Wellness Guide suggests using T36-C5 to any developing pustule, and to clear the plugged oil ducts. The Renew Intensive Skin Therapy should be used afterward to keep moisture in the skin and resist oil accumulation.

Clarity Clear Skin Essentials uses a unique combination of salicylic acid and Melaleuca Oil to quickly cleanse away pore-clogging substances all the while protecting and moisturizing your skin. Salicylic acid helps reduce swelling and redness, unplugs blocked skin pores, and helps stop the acne process.

Sun exposure is a top rosacea trigger. Daily application of Sun Shades Mineral Plus Sunscreen SPF 30+ will help prevent flare-ups and protect acne and rosacea prone skin.

I have had rosacea for over 20 years. One year ago I was researching natural ways to treat rosacea and discovered that Melaleuca's T36-C5 tea tree oil can help. I tried my doctor's creams and lotions and they didn't help. I wanted something natural, so I thought the oil was worth a try. I put the tea tree oil on my face 3 times a day. After 2 weeks I started noticing a difference. After 4 weeks my face was clear. I was amazed and so was my family. I took a picture of my face before I started so I could prove how bad the rosacea was. Now I maintain it by using the oil about 3 times a week. I hope this will help someone with this condition.

I suffered with rosacea for 15 years. I tried everything from specialists to homeopaths to no avail. All the doctors wanted to do was put me on antibiotics for the rest of my life. My wife and I enrolled with Melaleuca in 2009. I started with the Vitality Pack which included: ProvexCV, Vitality multivitamins, and CellWise. I also used Acne Wash, and applied Renew Lotion twice a day, which kept the skin from drying. I applied T36-C5 to the severe spots. It took 14 months of continual treatment before the rosacea completely cleared. This condition takes a while to clear, but be patient. Melaleuca products will do the job. The vitamins are a must to take. Healing is from the inside as well as outside. Added benefits now with Florify. If spots appear I apply T36-C5, which makes it disappear within a couple days. I owe my inner and outer health to Melaleuca. Seven years on my skin and it is smooth rosacea free.

The Clarity Skin Care Line is AMAZING! Have I got a testimonial for you! My 17 year old daughter wanted to go to an esthetician for her problem skin. She was breaking out and getting really frustrated. Well, $200+ later she started using products that just didn't work. When she went back to the esthetician for a 2-month follow up, my daughter was told that she should accept her skin, and that eventually it may clear up. As my daughter continued to use that product, and was getting to the point where she had to buy more, I informed her that, given she had a part-time job, she would have to buy the product herself. Then I asked her to take a look at the Melaleuca website. There was a fantastic video on the Clarity Skin Care line. I asked my daughter if she was willing to try it and she said yes. Then I told her the price - $29 for the complete system!!! My gift to her and the best news ever - HER SKIN CLEARED UP WITHIN 2 WEEKS!!! Thank you Melaleuca for providing us with such outstanding products.

My husband has rosacea, a form of adult acne. He had a prescription for Metronidazone, but about three years ago he decided to use a bit of T36-C5 twice a day on his nose instead of the prescription cream. His skin is so much improved that when he sees his dermatologist she doesn't even mention rosacea. Before when using using the prescription she always made a note to renew the prescription, and would comment about his skin needing the prescription medication
